About the artwork:
This Banksy mural in Bristol depicts a panda holding two guns and is one of the artist’s most well-known pieces. The artwork, titled “The Mild Mild West,” was painted in 1999 on the side of a building on Stokes Croft, a busy street in the city.
The original mural showed a panda wearing a bandana and holding two pistols in the air, as if firing them off. The panda appeared to be standing on a police barricade, with tear gas canisters and other debris strewn about in the background. The image was a commentary on the conflict between protesters and police that had been occurring in the area at the time.
Since its creation, the mural has become an iconic piece of street art and a symbol of Bristol’s vibrant art scene. Despite numerous attempts to remove or cover the artwork over the years, it has remained intact and is now considered a cultural landmark in the city.
